Well, this is sickening. Michel Kelley has both autism and down syndrome, but yet wasn’t stopped from being recognized for playing on his school’s special needs basketball team. His mother bought him a varsity jacket for him to wear at school like all the other athletes. Than this happened…
This didn’t sit well with another parent, who complained that the letter and jacket were reserved only for varsity athletes.
The school then insisted Kelley not wear the jacket, giving him a girls’ sweatshirt as a consolation prize.
KSN asked principal Ken Thiessen if the school would consider allowing students on special needs teams to wear a varsity letter.
“We have considered it, and our decision was no. We decided that is not appropriate in our situation because it is not a varsity level competition.”
Click the link to see how the rest of the school is rallying behind him. I hope the principal and the parent who made the original complaint both step on Legos.
