Fights are not entirely uncommon in schools. In many ways, they can serve as primitive forms of conflict resolution. But a fight between a teacher and a student? That’s another matter. One middle school science teacher had enough of disrespectful students and lashed-out physically at one and the whole thing was caught on a cell phone video. Check it out:[1]

A violent fight between a student and a teacher was caught on cell phone video in a Michigan science classroom.

According to WJBK-TV[3], the teacher, Ms Burns became angry when students at Mackenzie Elementary-Middle School in Detroit started throwing paper at her.

The teacher quickly lost control after a female student reportedly called her a ‘b***h.’

She reportedly thought that Diamonique Singleton, was the one to call her the name, despite the seventh-grader denying it.

‘That’s when she got in front of me, saying I’m a ‘b,’ and she started calling me ‘b,’ Singleton told WJBK-TV. ‘And I said, ‘No, I didn’t even say that.’ She was like, ‘OK, ‘b,’ you got me ‘f’d’ up.’

The young girl claims that she tried to walk away from the upset teacher, but Ms Burns allegedly pushed her, which ignited the fight.

Footage of the altercation first shows the student and teacher standing close in front of each other before it appears as though Ms Burns pushes Singleton.

The video then shows the pair violently pushing and hitting one another as students in the classroom can be heard screaming.

At one point, it appears as though another person tries to intervene and break up the fight, but isn’t successful, as the student and teacher end up on the floor of the classroom still fighting.

It’s unclear how long the altercation lasted or if Ms Burns or anyone else suffered any injuries.

A representative for the Detroit teacher’s union, Ivy Bailey, called the situation ‘disheartening.’ She said the teachers in the school system are under an immense amount of stress.

‘It was a little disheartening to see that,’ Bailey told WJBK-TV.

‘These people are at a breaking point. And with all this uncertainty about whether they’re going to have a job next year … There’s just a lot going on, a lot of stress.’

A spokesperson for the Detroit Public Schools (DPS) said the situation was ‘unfortunate’ and ‘disturbing’ in a statement to WJBK-TV.

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the school system.

Following the fight, Singleton was suspended from school and is also facing potential expulsion.

However, Ms Burns remains on the job still pending the conclusion of the DPS investigation.

It’s unclear when exactly the brawl occurred, but it is believed to have taken place sometime within the last week.

Yes, she’s still on the job. If brawling with a student doesn’t get her fired immediately, what will?

Thank goodness for the strength of the teachers unions, huh?…
