Gov. Greg Abbott has signed a resolution posthumously awarding Chris Kyle the Texas Legislative Medal of Honor.

Kyle was a native Texan and Navy Seal who served four tours in Iraq. Abbott also dedicated a portion of Highway 287 in Midlothian, Texas as “Chris Kyle Memorial Highway” and has proclaimed Feb. 2 as “Chris Kyle Day” in Texas.

“Since its inception, the Texas Legislative Medal of Honor has been awarded to those in the State of Texas who have demonstrated extraordinary heroism as a member of state or federal military forces, and there is no one more deserving of this year’s award than Chief Petty Officer Chris Kyle,” Gov. Abbott said in a statement.

Kyle is American hero who dedicated his life to the defense of his nation. He is a very worthy recipient of this high honor.
