He Thought He Was Being Cute By Threatening To Murder Trump On Twitter. Now, He’s In Federal Court…

When are people going to learn that threatening to kill someone (especially a political figure like the President-elect) isn’t covered under the First Amendment?

Probably the same time that they realize that announcing their criminal intent on social media is going to end up in their arrest. Jokes about murder aren’t funny, especially to law enforcement.

“My life goal is to assassinate Donald Trump. Don’t care if I serve infinite sentences. That man deserves to decease (sic) existing.”

This Tweet was sent by Zachary Benson, who was a little displeased at the results of the 2016 Presidential election. Apparently he deleted the Tweets the following morning, but the Secret Service had already been alerted to his threat.

The 24 year-old Ohio resident allegedly told the authorities that he was actually a non-violent person and didn’t intend to carry through with the threat. This didn’t matter to the cops and Benson has now been charged in federal court with making a threat to a successor to the presidency.

But wait, there’s more! Seconds after that Tweet, he sent out another one and it’s just as violent, if not more so, than the first.

“Diplomacy. F***ing fools. I hate you all. I want to bomb every one of your voting booths and your general areas.”

While claiming that he had no plan to carry out the bombings or assassination he was, and I quote, “just frustrated thinking about how President-elect Trump’s policies could affect his job.”

Well, I wonder how a federal charge is going to affect his employment? Probably substantially more than whatever Trump could have come up with. Way to go, genius.
