Useful Idiots On Parade: There were more “peace” (might as well have been Pro-Saddam) rallies across this world this week-end. Here’s a banner from one of them that I cribbed from A Small Victory…
Lovely sentiment eh? I’m tempted to simply toss up a few provocative pics and quotes and make fun of the role the Commies at ANSWER played in all of this, but there’s a deeper point that needs to be made.
Tony Blair touched on it when he said…
There will be no march for the victims of Saddam, no protests about the thousands of children that die needlessly every year under his rule, no righteous anger over the torture chambers which if he is left in power, will be left in being.”
You know, it may be a lot of fun to get dressed up like a hippy and hang out with your friends all afternoon and shout out a bunch of bumper sticker slogans while you pretend like you’re accomplishing something, but what are the consequences? Like I’ve said before, I don’t ever hear these people taking responsibility for the results of the position they’re advocating.
I’d love to go to one of these rallies and not just so that I could lure these peaceniks into dark alleys where I could mug them for their wallets and Birkenstocks — I’d like to go and hear and speaker say something like,
“That’s right, we’re against Bush’s filthy war! We’re willing to let Saddam have nukes! It’s not our place to stop Saddam from getting nuclear weapons and if he starts a nuclear war with Israel, that’s not our problem. Sure, the Iraqis may not have any freedom, but why should we do anything about that? That’s has nothing to do with us! We’re willing to risk a terrorist bringing a nuke, right here into NYC. That’s better than war any day!”
What would the response to that be? Applause? Boos? I’m guessing boos — because these people are just not willing to deal with the real world consequences of their actions. Of course, there’s nothing new about that.
Just think back to the Vietnam war protestors. How many of them were complaining about the Khmer Rouge killing everything that moved in Cambodia? Pol Pot and company slaughtered over a million people, but the US wasn’t involved, so that was fine with them. How many of the protestors from back then do you think look at Vietnam today and say, “Wow, today there are 81 million people condemned to life in that Communist hellhole, and I helped make it possible?” Because indeed, the Vietnam era peace protestors did help make that a reality.
So if you’re one of the people who went to the little “pro-Saddam” rallies this week-end, I hope remember, Saddam and the terrorists are watching and they appreciate everything you’re doing for them. You’re helping to raise their morale and giving them hope that America doesn’t have the will to see the war on terrorism through. Iraq even said so explicitly…
“Iraq on Sunday gloated over the global outpouring of opposition to the U.S. threat of attack, saying anti-war demonstrations in dozens of countries signaled an Iraqi victory and “the defeat and isolation of America.”
I’m sure Saddam and whoever is heading Al-Qaeda these days would thank you personally if they could. Now their victims? I don’t know if most of them would have such kind words for you…
***Update***: Hey look, Saddam has now thanked the protestors for all their help…
“The pioneering and humane positions expressed through the demonstrations that recently took place should be viewed with esteem and kindness. We hope that everybody works for the establishment of peace, based on justice, equity and kindness among peoples.”
Congrats peace protestors, Saddam appreciates all your efforts to keep him from being removed from power. In these trying times it must be comforting for Saddam to know that all of those people are in effect on his side.
