Ever wondered what exactly is going to be your demise, disease-wise that is? No? Well now’s your chance to change that up with this new chart. Do you dare[1] look at it?

From Metro:

The animated – and alarmingly fast-moving chart – shows different probabilities for each different kind of death as you go through life.

Starting at your current age, the chart simulates probabilities for each form of death – and how many of your contemporaries remain alive, until it reaches zero.

It was created by data expert Nathan Yau – using real information from death certificates in the U.S. between 1999 and 2014.

“How You Will Die”

Yau says, ‘Enter your sex, race, and age. Each dot represents one of your simulated lives, and as each year passes, more of your simulated selves pass away.

‘Color corresponds to cause of death, and the bars on the right keep track of the cumulative percentages. By the end, you’re left with the chances that you will die of each cause.Try shifting age down to zero and watch the rate of change.’

‘The main point, which is what you’d expect, is that mortality rate is much lower in the earlier years of life than in the older years. But, if you do die at a younger age, it’s much more likely due to something external rather than a disease.”

Uh. No. I will not be anticipating my death. You can keep it. I plan to go out saving a school bus full of children…at least in my head.
