Tragically a young woman was raped. She chose to tell the story [2]on Instagram. Instagram let her know they didn’t want that story told. Rape is a horrible crime. But what’s your opinion about how Instagram handled this situation?

An activist who documented the aftermath of being raped on social media has hit out after having a post removed by Instagram.

Amber Amour chose to share her ordeal as a way of coping with the attack.

One of the pictures the 27-year-old posted was taken immediately after she was raped.

But she is now angry after being told the series of posts – which provoked a mixed reception around the world – did not meet Instagram’s community guidelines.

Amber wrote on Twitter: ‘Congrats on silencing rape survivors!’

In a blog on the Huffington Post, Amber wrote: ‘I told the story of my rape with as much detail as I could. I knew that it would shock the world. And I didn’t care what people thought or said.

‘I told the truth, the full truth, because I wanted to convey the message that no matter what a person does, there is no justification for rape.’

There can be educational value is telling your story. It can help others to avoid the same fate. But the question is; how should that story be told, and where? You may agree or disagree with what Amber put on social media. But we all must make choices about HOW we tell our story. There are ways to tell it so that it helps the most. Did Amber choose a helpful way to tell her sad story?
