Arafat’s 9485345834593453th ‘Last Chance’: President

Arafat’s 9485345834593453th ‘Last Chance’: President Bush had some pretty harsh words for terrorist Yasser Arafat yesterday…

“His responsibility is just what I said — to renounce, to help detect and stop terrorist killings. And the message can’t be more clear, and we’re going to continue to hold people accountable for results. Chairman Arafat should now seize this opportunity to act decisively in word and in deed against terror directed at Israeli citizens. (Arafat) hasn’t earned my respect. He must earn my respect by leading.”

That sounds good right? But there isn’t the slightest, tiniest, most miniscule. expectation anyone should have that Arafat is going to do anything to fight terrorism. In fact, asking Arafat to do something about terrorism is like sticking a coyote in a chicken coop and expecting all your chickens to be there in the morning. It’s not going to happen and anyone who’s followed Arafat’s career especially in the last year and a half has to KNOW that it isn’t going to happen.

So that prompts an obvious question; what happens when Arafat doesn’t do anything to fight terrorism yet again? I have yet to hear ANYONE from the US, EU, Arab governments, etc., say publicly what consequences Arafat will have to face if he fails to deliver.

At some point, Arafat HAS to be removed somehow or there can’t be any real peace in region. Ideally, that point would of been about 35 years ago but it’s not too late to do the right thing and get rid of the ever present sand in the gears of the Middle East process. Now, who has the guts to do it?
