It looks like no one is buying the Internal Revenue Service’s claim that former executive Lois Lerner’s computer crashed, destroying thousands of e-mails requested by House investigators. Even CNN just laughed at this sleazy, grown-up version of “my dog ate my homework.” [1]
“Do you believe in Santa Claus? Do you believe that Lois Lerner’s emails suddenly went ‘poof?’”
King added that he agreed with Rep. Dave Camp (R-MI) who said that it was “unacceptable” that this information was just coming to light now, over a year after the investigation into allegations that the IRS targeted conservative political groups with undue scrutiny began…“Waiting a year to tell the Congress makes me suspicious,” King said.
Yes, I think everyone old enough to tie their shoes is suspicious of these preposterous tall tales. But while it’s tempting to laugh, it’s not funny. The IRS is a government agency with enormous power, and it seems it has no qualms about lying to Congress and the public.
