Failure? Doesn’t sound like a failure to me.

Headline: Low targets, goals dropped: Copenhagen ends in failure[1]

Failure? Why failure? They went there to make an agreement, and they did.

The UN climate summit reached a weak outline of a global agreement in Copenhagen tonight, falling far short of what Britain and many poor countries were seeking and leaving months of tough negotiations to come.

Okay, so it “fell short.” Big whoop. That Kyoto Treaty thing – that was hailed as a major victory, right? And what’s it done for us since?

Nutt’n, that’s what. So if the Copenhagen agreement “falls short,” it’s just as good as Kyoto!

Besides that, hundreds – maybe thousands – of world leaders, aides, assistants, bureaucrats and lawyers got a nice vacation in Denmark, which I understand is quite pretty (if not warm) this time of year. They got to fly on private jets, ride in limousines. Shake hands, get their pictures taken, schmooze with the rich, famous, powerful. Eat a lot of great food and drink a lot of great booze that was all paid for by somebody else.

Sounds to me like they accomplished exactly what they set out to accomplish. Plus, you know, if they had solved all the world’s problems, then they’d have no reason to get together again, fly in those private planes, eat and drink all that free food and booze, press the flesh with the beautiful and mighty.

Failure? No way. Copenhagen was a raging success.
