Wasn’t it liberals who used that language[1] nearly 10 years ago to persuade the nation to “move on” from a Washington scandal?
It certainly was, but as Matt Margolis[2] wrote earlier today, liberals are “foaming at the mouth” about Scooter Libby’s commutation — doing whatever they can to keep this pointless story alive. Over at Daily Kos[3], they’re encouraging calls to the House Judiciary Committee in hopes of impeaching President Bush. If you’re not satisfied with the hate-filled and evil comments on Kos, there are plenty more on Democratic Underground[4].
The Democrat presidential candidates[5] are only adding fuel to the fire. Even Sen. Hillary Clinton, whose husband had the gall to pardon terrorists[6], couldn’t hold back: “This commutation sends the clear signal that in this administration, cronyism and ideology trump competence and justice.” Is there a better description for the Clinton Administration than that?
Let’s face it, it doesn’t really matter what Bush does anymore. He inspires near-universal hatred from the left and will continue to do so for the next 18 months of his presidency. I’m glad he commuted Libby’s sentence it for two reasons: 1) The punishment didn’t fit the crime, and 2) It’s time to move on and put this chapter behind us. We have more important problems on our hands.
