Mini-Review Of ‘Alien Vs. Predator’

I enjoyed “Alien” & “Aliens”, “Predator” & “Predator 2”, and even the first big crossover movie “Freddy Vs. Jason”, so you’d think I would have really enjoyed “Alien Vs. Predator….but, it didn’t work out that way.

That’s not to say that it was a terrible movie, because the movie did do a few things well. The film was fast paced & the fights between the predators and aliens were superbly done

On the other hand, there was very little time spent developing any of the characters, so what happens to them means absolutely nothing to you one way or the other. Futhermore, those action sequences I mentioned? There simply weren’t enough of them. In fact, given the non-existent character development and that the movie was called…well…”Alien Vs. Predator”, I think they could have improved the movie by literally DOUBLING the number of fight scenes. Oh…and the heroine of the movie? Not only was I completely indifferent to whether she would be eaten by an alien or skewered by a predator, I thought it was particularly unbelievable when she went all “Xena Warrior Princess” later in the movie.

So in the end, I give the movie a thumbs near the middle, tilting slightly towards the earth. In other words, don’t bother seeing it in the theater, but if there’s nothing else you’re dying to see, it should OK to catch when it comes out on video.
