Question: Lakers head coach Phil Jackson is in a bit of trouble after some postgame comments:
“The Spurs made 13 3-pointers in their 107-92 victory on Tuesday night, and Jackson was asked if too much penetration was leading to open outside shooters.
“We call this a ‘Brokeback Mountain’ game, because there’s so much penetration and kickouts,” Jackson said. “It was one of those games.”
NBA spokesman Brian McIntyre said: “The remarks are in poor taste, and the Lakers have assured us such remarks will not occur in the future.”
Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) president Neil G. Giuliano issued a statement saying: “Phil Jackson’s been coaching long enough that he should be able to talk about the Lakers’ performance without resorting to cheap gay jokes.”
Poor taste, or pretty funny?” — maledicta
Answer: It’s pretty funny.
One of the natural consequences of the heavily partisan atmosphere we have here in the US, our lawsuit lottery culture, and the existence of all these grievance mongering groups that make a living by complaining about things, is incessant over reactions to everything.
Somebody hangs a noose on a doorknob and two hours later it’s on the Drudge Report. Somebody makes a “Brokeback Mountain” joke and GLAAD is issuing a press release. John McCain doesn’t chastise some woman at his rally for calling Hillary Clinton a b*tch and CNN is claiming his campaign is over.
It’s tedious and ridiculous when it’s applied to politics and even worse when these ridiculous standards are applied to people outside of politics.
