Best idea ever? Rep. Steve Stockman is proposing a “Dog Ate My Tax Receipts Act,” [1]which would allow taxpayers to invent cock-and-bull stories to explain why they can’t pay.
You know, sort of like the stories the IRS told Congress about how they “lost” Lois Lerner’s e-mails.
“The United States was founded on the belief government is subservient and accountable to the people. Taxpayers shouldn’t be expected to follow laws the Obama administration refuses to follow themselves,” said Stockman. “Taxpayers should be allowed to offer the same flimsy, obviously made-up excuses the Obama administration uses.”
Obviously, it’s a joke meant to mock the IRS’ arrogance, double standards, and likely dishonesty. But you know a few pranksters will take this idea and run with it next April 15, punking the IRS with comical excuses for screwing up their taxes. I can’t wait.
