The Texas House voted 101-48 late Wednesday for a bill requiring voters to show photo ID at the polls.
It’s about dang time. There should be NO controversy with this bill. It’s absurd that it’s taken this long. We have to show our ID to get on a plane or buy a beer. There is no good reason not to show it when you participate in this most important citizen duty. The left claims that there are people out there with no ID. We all know that is a very tiny minority. But the bill, as have other bills, allows a free ID to those who need it. Several kinds of government-issued photo identification would also be accepted, including a driver’s license, a U.S. military ID card and a U.S. passport. So, everything has been done to make sure everyone can have an ID without burden.
There is only one reason it was ever a controversy. Democrats knew that illegal immigrants (and dead people) vote for Democrats. Showing ID would put a stop to that illegality. In conversations with regular Democrats, I have never talked to one who had a real problem with it. This is about honesty, and nothing else. If you are who you say you are, then you shouldn’t have a problem showing an ID to vote anymore than you would showing an ID for a bottle of wine at the liquor store or to get on a plane.
It’s about time this common sense issue has been put to rest.
Speaking of fighting against voter fraud, there is a summit happening this weekend in Houston called True The Vote Summit.
In 2009, a group of citizens volunteered to work at the polls in Houston, Texas. We were shocked by what we discovered. We watched as Election Officials often failed to check voters’ identification, disregarded polling documentation requirements, and routinely accompanied voters to the voting booth and told them who they should or should not vote for, going so far as to fully prepare the ballot, make all selections, and instruct the voter to “press here to vote”. Free and fair elections are an American birthright.
True the Vote is a initiative developed by citizens for citizens, to inspire and equip volunteers for involvement at every stage of our electoral process and to actively protect the rights of legitimate voters, regardless of their political party affiliation.
Our government was built upon the belief that election results represent the true will of the people; our election processes were always intended to be supported by citizen volunteers. If you are one of the millions of Americans outraged by the corruption of our government, help stop the corruption where it starts – at the polls. Sign up right here, right now. Let’s work together to true the vote in every election across our nation!
If our elections are not truly fair…we are not truly free.
I’ll be covering the summit, so check back Monday for my post. There will be several politicians and pundits speaking including former Senator Norm Coleman, Wall Street Journal’s John Fund, and Ted Cruz, running for the Senate in Texas and many others.
