There’s just no keeping these people happy. Or: The Ozone Layer, Friend or Menace?

Good news: the ozone layer is growing back to what it was, pre-human screwitupititis:[1]

While the hole in the Earth’s protective ozone layer is slowly healing, its recovery might have a downside, scientists say: Climate change could change wind patterns and send ozone from high in the atmosphere down to the surface, where it is a major component of smog.

Bad news: the ozone layer is growing back to where it was, which means more smog!

So…more ozone is…bad. Yes? No. Well, yes, but only because of global climate change, which is even more of a certainty now that Al Gore may be hit with a criminal complaint.

The ozone was depleting, and the enviros freaked out. Now the ozone is growing back and… the enviros are freaking out! Is it any wonder fewer people are listening?

One more thing:

The Antarctic ozone hole is the closest real-life glimpse at a world without UV protection. Since its discovery in the 1980s, it has spread over parts of Australia, New Zealand, Chile and South Africa where the threats of skin cancer, cataracts, and damage to have raised concerns.

Surely, someone somewhere has some actual…y’know…data? “Threats…have raised concerns.” Have any actual lymphomas been raised by the ozone hole? Do any studies back up these “concerns,” and if so, why couch your statements in terms like: “could change wind patterns;” “threats of skin cancer.”

Me, I’m more concerned about the growing bear threat. Could seriously impact my ammo supply.[2]
