Unions Drove Twinkies Out of Business, But Now the Company is Back With No Union Workers

After union greed drove Twinkies out of business last November, there was such a burst of nostalgia for the snack cakes that it practically guaranteed that it would return to business. After all in a capitalistic society, if there are enough people who want to eat Twinkies, there will be someone who makes Twinkies.

So, the good news is that Twinkies are coming back, but they won’t be coming back with union workers.

The company that bought them, Apollo Global Management, LLC, and Metropoulos & Co., which also owns Pabst Blue Ribbon, has dumped the company’s union contracts in bankruptcy court. Daren Metropoulos also noted that Twinkies does “not expect to be involved in the union going forward.”

That’s what the union workers get for striking when the company was on its last legs and desperately trying to keep itself alive. If not for union greed, Twinkies might have never gone under in the first place.

Now, Hostess chief executive officer Michael Cramer says, “Safely, you should be able to buy Twinkies by the end of July.” However, those Twinkies won’t be made by union labor and that is just “desserts.”
