Oliver Minatel of the Ottawa Fury got a more eventful flight from Canada to Atlanta, Georgia than he expected when a man who was supposedly “hearing voices” began to strangle him during the flight.

The player was actually asleep when the nut ball attacked[1], according to witnesses.

A professional soccer player was allegedly attacked by a crazed man on an air Canada flight to Atlanta on Friday.

Oliver Minatel, 22, who plays for the Ottawa Fury said that he was napping when a man, whose identity has not been revealed, choked him with a headphone cord.

‘He just jumped on me,’ Minatel told CNN reporter Paula Newton who was on the plane at the time and was able to interview the player after the incident.

Minatel was not seriously injured and will able play the Atlanta Silverbacks in Georgia on Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m.

Kevin Kerr, a passenger sitting next to the alleged attacker on the flight, said the man repeatedly told him he thought ‘the soccer team was out to kill him.’
