People don’t realize the many ways that police officers risk their lives for us on a daily basis. But one video in which an Ohio State Trooper has a very close call might just help open a few people’s eyes.

When car troubles stranded a driver on the shoulder of a highway, an Ohio State Trooper stopped to lend a hand. But within minutes, the trooper ended up saving the man’s life, as well as his own.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol released video Friday showing Trooper Stephen Zientek after he pulled over on I-475 to help a driver with a dead car battery. The two were walking back to the trooper’s car to wait for a tow when Zientek saw a semi lose control and start to head in their direction. He yells at the stranded driver to get out of the way. The video then shows the trooper jump over the guardrail just as a semi hits the back of his patrol car, sending it slamming into the stranded vehicle.

It’s not just being shot by some thug that police officers need to worry about. Every traffic stop, every call, could be their last.
