Five Reasons Gitmo Won’t Close This Year, None Of Them Obama’s Fault

Hey, ABC News has to do something to make it seem as if Obama’s first act in office (signing an order to close Guantanamo Bay) wasn’t a total shame, lie, and bone to the hard left

Sixteen months after the Obama administration ordered the closure of the U.S. military detention camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, more than 180 detainees remain at the base, stuck in political and legal limbo that appears likely to persist at least through the end of the year.

Well, it is kinda hard to concentrate on finishing the job, what with all the golf, campaign appearances, fund-raising, basketball, etc, ya know!

The pending 2011 Defense Authorization Bill[1], which is the latest flash point in the Guantanamo debate, would slow the transfer of detainees to their home or third-party countries, hinder a future transfer of detainees to U.S. soil and block funds to buy or build a replacement for Guantanamo in the United States.

But Congress’ tight hold on the purse strings[2] isn’t the only roadblock to closing Guantanamo. Here are five more:

  1. Holding and Trying Detainees: Not in My Backyard – not Obama’s fault that you darned American’s won’t allow them in your neighborhoods
  2. Cleared for Release but Nowhere to Go – not Obama’s fault that the other stupid countries won’t take the little darlings
  3. Back to Battle: The High Recidivism Rate – not Obama’s fault that Bush turned these little darlings into hard core jihadis after picking them up on the battlefields
  4. Indefinite Hold: Objections to Imprisoning 48 Without Charge – not Obama’s fault that these are people so bad that you do not want to charge them (this one really is not Obama’s fault, though he does want to change the laws so he can bring them to US continental soil)
  5. Crowded Election-Year Agenda – not Obama’s fault that didn’t get it done. He figured he would sign a piece of paper and “poof!” all done. That’s what happens when you elected someone who has never been in charge of anything.

Good job, ABC News! Because we all know that Nothing Is Obama’s Fault.
