US Navy SEAL Team Member Killed When His Parachute Failed To Open [VIDEO]

Each year, New York Harbor celebrates Fleet Week, honoring the Navy. There are various events included in the annual celebration. This year there was an aerial jump show by the Navy SEALs. And it turned tragic when one of the jumper’s parachutes failed.

Crowds of people gathered across the river in Liberty State Park, Jersey City, NJ, witnessed the horrifying event as it unfolded. The parachutist was a member of Navy SEALs commando unit elite parachute team called the “Leap Frogs,” operating under the Naval Special Warfare Command.

The Coast Guard and the Jersey City Fire Department Marine unit retrieved the SEAL from the water immediately and he was pulled from the Morris Canal near the mouth of the Hudson River. He was taken to the Jersey Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:10 p.m. Rear Admiral Jack Scorby informed the public of the death at a press conference.

The SEAL’s identity is being withheld until family members have been notified.

ABC garnered eerie video of a piece of the jumper’s torn chute as it floated down to rest on the pavement without its passenger.

The Navy has begun an investigation into the cause of the accident. Parachuting is dangerous and any number of factors could have contributed to the tragedy. No doubt we will hear new information as it is made available by the Navy.

Sadly, America has lost one of our courageous heroes who served in the military. Our condolences and prayers are extended to the family and friends of this SEAL, gone too soon. This Memorial Day, let us remember this SEAL and loved ones as they go forward into a world without this hero. And let us pray for healing as they mourn the loss. We are thankful for all of our men and women in uniform.
