Outrage in Missouri Over Patio Built from Gravestones of Military Veterans

American military veterans in southern Missouri are outraged over the discovery of a man’s patio that was built using at least 100 headstones taken from veterans’ graves.

Photos of this patio built from discarded grave stones that had been replaced by newer ones were distributed on Facebook by Missouri veteran Ed Harkreader. He says that replaced gravestones of veterans are supposed to be destroyed, not repurposed, especially in such a disrespectful manner.

As Fox News 2 in St. Louis reported

The patio apparently made out of about 100 military headstones is in Ozark County, not far from the Missouri-Arkansas state line.

Navy veteran Ed Harkreader says he learned about the patio from a friend.

He drove to take a look and took photos, then posted them on Facebook.

Harkreader says he talked with the sheriff, who told him the headstones may have come from a company that discarded some of them and left them for the public.

This isn’t the first time this has happened recently. A woman was arrested in West Virginia for stealing headstones of veterans to line her driveway. In another case, a cemetery worker in Rhode Island was caught using headstones to line his own patio.
