This is shocking news. Iran has fired on a US Cargo ship and directed it to dock at Bandar Abbas port on the southern coast of Iran.
Iran is now holding the 34 Americans aboard as hostages
According to International Business Times:
A U.S. cargo ship has been fired upon and seized by the Iranian Navy and taken to the Persan Gulf port of Bandar Abbas, on the Strait of Hormuz, according to a tweet Tuesday from the Saudi Arabian-owned Al Arabiya news website. The tweet also mentions that the 34 sailors are American, but does not say where the ship was intercepted.
According to Iran’s FARS news agency the vessel had been detained “for trespassing on Iran’s territorial waters.”
Senior U.S. military officials, speaking Tuesday to NBC, said there have not been any confrontations between Iranian and U.S. military ships operating in the region.
The report of the cargo ship being seized comes just days after an Iranian convoy of ships, allegedly on its way to deliver weapons to Houthi rebels in Yemen, turned back before meeting U.S. Navy ships operating in the Gulf of Aden.
