Of course, it is illegal to offer prizes or hand out money to people for voting, but that hasn’t stopped a Chicago alderman from doing just that anyway.

A black alderwoman from the city’s south side created a Facebook page that told her voters if they voted and then came to her office with proof that they voted, why she would give them prizes such as a $100 Visa gift card.
This is, of course, completely illegal.
Democrat Alderman Leslie Hairston of Chicago’s Fifth Ward is under extreme fire for telling residents of the ward that they could win raffle prizes, mostly gift cards to establishments like Walgreens, Starbucks and Potbelly’s, but also including $100 Visa gift cards, in return for their vote.
Chicago, managed by Democrats for decades, has long been a hotbed of political corruption, including but not limited to bribes, kickbacks, and kneecappings known as the “Chicago way.”
FOX 32 News investigative reporter, Dane Placko, visited Hairston’s offices after being alerted to the Alderman’s Facebook post which promoted the illegal vote-buying scheme, and spoke directly to Hairston.
…Election attorney Burt Odelson called Democrat Hairston’s actions “not legal,” stating that they violate Article 29-1 of the election code,” which carries a Class 4 felony for violators.
Yes, this is a blatant violation of the law, and not just state law, but federal law.
