Obama’s new Secretary of Defense, Ashton Carter, has said that he doesn’t think that transgender people should be barred from military service. Today Obama’s press secretary has said that Obama agrees with that.
Earlier in the week, Carter proclaimed that the transgendered person is perfectly acceptable in the military.
“(W)e want to make our conditions and experience of service as attractive as possible to our best people in our country. And I’m very open-minded about — otherwise about what their personal lives and proclivities are, provided they can do what we need them to do for us. That’s the important criteria,” Carter said. “I don’t think anything but their suitability for service should preclude them.”
Today, Obama’s press sec said that the president agrees with his new Defense chief. The transgendered should be allowed to serve.
