The Iranians had sent a flotilla of small ships into the Arabian sea with what everyone assumes were ships full of weapons destined to be given to Islamist terrorists in Yemen. But the US Aircraft Carrier Teddy Roosevelt and a several other US ships made the Iranians turn back without delivering the weapons of war. Score one for the good guys.
It was head-to-head for a while but after a tense five-day standoff, the Iranian ships turned back.
Naturally, the Obama administration wouldn’t tell the truth about why it sent the aircraft carrier and a guided missile cruiser to the Yemeni coast. The White House said it was for “maritime security operations.”
Obama even outright denied that the mission was to intercept Iranian arms shipments.
Regardless of what the truth was, the effect was that the Iranians turned tail and ran. No one messes with the US Navy!
