The farce Washington governor Christine Gregoire initiated by allowing militant atheists to put up a sign denouncing Christianity next to the Christmas display in the state capitol has reached a new extreme of tastelessness. Active Democrat and enthusiastic Al Gore supporter Fred Phelps would like to put in his 2¢ too. Via Knowledge Is Power, here’s the contribution he wants to make to the Christmas display:

How about it Governor Gregoire? After all, it wouldn’t be politically correct to discriminate against non-Christians, and Phelps’s cult, despite calling itself the Westboro Baptist Church, is anything but Christian.
Phelps isn’t the only one to take up Gregoire on her implicit invitation to ridicule Christmas:
Another Kansas group, the KC Free Thinkers, wants permission to put up a display celebrating a tongue-in-cheek deity named The Flying Spaghetti Monster. In a similar vein, an Olympia man is requesting approval for a celebratory pole in honor of the holiday Festivus, which was invented as part of a “Seinfeld” TV show episode in the late 1990s.
