Clarion Ledger reports the Madison County Board of Supervisors released a statement Wednesday condemning recent comments by a Jackson councilman that his constituents should throw things at police.

Jackson Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth Stokes told television reporters last week that when police from outside jurisdictions come into his ward on police pursuits, residents should throw rocks, bricks and bottles at them.

On Sunday, Stokes held a press conference to address his comments, and said that the issue of police pursuits into Jackson by outside agencies is one of race, setting off even more of a firestorm between law enforcement supporters and Stokes supporters.
