A New York Times writer has lashed out viciously against a rape victim who appeared in an NRA video stating that former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg wants to take away her right to defend herself. New York Times editorial writer David Firestone said that the ad was “scaremongering” and called it the worst commercial by the NRA
The outcry in social media was so loud even the victim took to Twitter to respond.
According to Biz Pac Review, Kimberly Weeks tweeted, “It’s fine, not like I’m a REAL person retelling my REAL story or anything…Victim blaming is alive and well in our culture…In case the NYT is interested in my REAL story: http://revealingpolitics.com/blog/2014/10/guest-oped-not-the-right-kind-of-rape-victim/ …”
It is appalling that a newspaper would viciously attack a rape victim. It is equally as appalling that the writer would not want her to protect herself. A rape victim trying to protect herself isn’t scaremongering, it’s common sense and human decency.
