George Lopez’s Stinking Thinking

Your TV show is a money loser and it gets cancelled. Is it because it was losing money or because you’re Hispanic? The answer won’t surprise you if you’re talking to a liberal,

George Lopez, the first Latino to lead a television series successfully, isn’t laughing. “TV just became really, really white again,” he said.

…”The George Lopez Show” will live on in syndication, but that’s not making Lopez feel better about not getting the chance to tell one final season of stories. Lopez said Steve McPherson, ABC president of prime-time entertainment, called him over the weekend to explain that “financially” it wasn’t working out, that the network would lose money if it picked up the show again.

That explanation was painful to hear, Lopez said, considering the way the network has shuffled his show over the years — four different time slots in five years — and putting it up against “American Idol” time and time again.

…Lopez said he attributed the cancellation in part to the fact that the show is produced by Warner Bros. Television, and not ABC Television Studios. Using some colorful language that cannot be printed in a family newspaper, Lopez scoffed in particular at another ABC pickup: “Cavemen,” about two brothers and one best friend, described as sophisticated cave dudes living in modern-day Atlanta, who will continually find themselves at odds with contemporary society.

“I get kicked out for a…caveman and shows that I out-performed because I’m not owned by [ABC Television Studios]…So a…Chicano can’t be on TV but a…caveman can?” Lopez said. “And a Chicano with an audience already? You know when you get in this that shows do not last forever, but this was an important show and to go unceremoniously like this hurts. One hundred seventy people lost their jobs.”

If the same thing that happened to George Lopez happened to a white guy, he’d probably also be disappointed that he was dropped, but he would blame it on the network shuffling his show around and not giving it a fair chance to succeed. It’s not that they’re racists, it’s that they’re jerks.

But, despite the fact that Lopez hasn’t said a single, solitary thing that would suggest this has anything to do with his being a Latino, he thinks it’s about race. The honest truth is that if anything, the fact that George Lopez is Hispanic probably made them MORE RELUCTANT to cancel the series instead of the reverse.

But still, you’ve got Lopez whining that a, “Chicano can’t be on TV but a…caveman can.” Please. This is the sort of poisonous thinking that the race hustlers like Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and their enablers on the left have introduced into our society. It really doesn’t go any deeper than a white person and a minority get into a conflict — therefore, it must be racial.

The problem with that sort of thinking is that conflicts with other people happen all the time, and if you think like Lopez does, it leads to your walking around with a chip on your shoulder because it’s a whole lot easier to mentally accept that some people are creeps than it is to deal with a world where every white people who disagrees with you is a racist. The former is just something you shrug off, but the latter will make you into a bitter, angry person who falsely thinks the deck is stacked against you at every turn. It’s not mentally healthy, it’s not the real world, but it is the sort of thinking that liberals encourage.
