Nothing To See Here, Just More Evidence Of American Decline
Written By : John Hawkins

One of the most bizarre features of modern American life is how the wheels are coming off of the American dream right in front of us, but so many people seem not to notice. As you read stories like this one you can’t help but marvel at the human ability to ignore what’s right in one’s face.

The US dollar will lose its status as the global reserve currency over the next 25 years, according to a survey of central bank reserve managers who collectively control more than $8,000bn.

More than half the managers, who were polled by UBS, predicted that the dollar would be replaced by a portfolio of currencies within the next 25 years.

The results are the latest sign of dissatisfaction with the dollar as a reserve currency, amid concerns over the US government’s inability to rein in spending and the Federal Reserve’s huge expansion of its balance sheet.

“Right now there is great concern out there around the financial trajectory that the US is on,” said Larry Hatheway, chief economist at UBS.

Yet, the Democrats want to spend, spend, spend. In fact, if the Democrats had the same sort of numbers they did in 2010 in Congress, is there anyone who doubts that spending would be going up significantly instead of going down?

Oh, there is someone who doubts it? Well then, the rest of us think you’re kind of an idiot because every single dime of spending cuts that have happened this year have been because the GOP demanded it. If the Democratic Party doesn’t join the adult party at some point, if it keeps pretending not to see the devastation its rampant spending is causing, it’s going to bankrupt the country.

It doesn’t have to be that way, but at some point, Democrats have to move beyond rhetoric and finger-pointing and start governing. This country isn’t going to prosper long term with one party full of responsible people and another party running on “All the free money you can spend, forever, with no consequences!”

History is going to damn Bush and McCain for their role in TARP,as it is going to be recognized as the turning point in the decline of America unless we can somehow repair the damage.

We realistically have until about 2014 to reignite the economy and balance the budget. If that happens we can mitigate and undo the damage that has been done and reassert ourselves as a world superpower. If we slide into 2015 and beyond with 7%+ unemployment and $1+ trillion in debt, we’re going to see a general collapse of the economy, the government, and civil order as we can no longer pay our bills and a critical mass of a dependent underclass is reached.

Our comfortable lifestyle can come to an end very, very quickly unless we stop acting as a spectator of our own demise and begin taking proactive and common sense action.

The crux of the matter. Lifestyles are too comfortable and not sustainable.

Well, thank you for doing away with any pretense that people of your political ilk want anything other than a decline in the level of prosperity and a general increase in the level of pain, misery and suffering.  The consequences of your side’s policies have long made clear that that is the crux of your objective.  But, its good that you’re finally being upfront about it.

What is it with the Right and the word “ilk”?

A correction to your observation. It is the greed, assumptions of entitlement and waste which lead to the decline of the nation. The Capitalistic notion of the “American Dream”. The policies which have created this chimera lead us to its ultimate conclusion.

          • Anonymous

Um, no. Its been the constant increase in entitlement programs and other wasteful spending from the bloated, yet still ever increasing government behemoth that is dragging us down. IOW, the liberal, “Socialist Dream” is the cancer in the body of America.

The American Dream is the most beautiful dream in history; a place where you can live in freedon to practice any or no religion as you see fit, a place where your labor benefits you and your family, a place where you are free from the arbitrary rule of men and are protected by the rule of law, a place where yo can believe, think and say anything that you want without fear of repression.  The decline is due to the greed and ignorance, the fear and loathing of those on the left who want entitlements instead of earnings, who want the rule of men instead of the rule of law, who want special priveleges instead of merit.  The left is all about entitlement and waste and their beliefs, their policies, their agenda is what is leading to the decline of our nation.  But as a free people we can reject all of that and rehabilitate our nation so that we can exceed the prosperity and accomplishments of the past.

            Have an Evil day

Even when you try to palm off your expressed preferred consequences of your policies, you can’t help but devolve into a sadistic attack on the desire of people for a better life.  Now that’s funny.

By the time Obama took over at the economy was in shambles thanks to republican policies of wealth transfer from the muddle class to the over-wealthy, and non-regulation of financial markets.

Your party started this inferno, and now you blame the guy fighting it for not putting it out quickly enough.

Republican hypocrisy in a nut shell, which makes sense with all the right wing nuts here.

You idiot, this all started taking place when Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid took over congress.  The spending took a big upward turn.

It also had to do with the mortgage crisis that took place because the dems refused to reign in Freddie & Fannie because of the CRA that was created by Carter and it was doubled down on in the Clintoon administration.  There were at least 15 times that President Bush and Senator Mclame tried to get them to reign them it in.

So you can’t seriously blame it all on Bush.  The dems need to man up and take responsibility for their culpability in the economy’s downward spiral.

Liberals/Progressives clean up your own damned house first.

Not putting it out quickly? Obama and his minions have thrown gasoline on that fire and made things WORSE!
