University of Chicago Professor — It Should be Legal to Kill Newborns

Professor Jerry Coyne, a biologist at the University of Chicago, has convinced himself that murdering infants is morally fine because infants are too stupid to know they’re being murdered.

On his personal blog, the Professor wrote:

If you are allowed to abort a fetus that has a severe genetic defect, microcephaly, spina bifida, or so on, then why aren’t you able to euthanize that same fetus just after it’s born? I see no substantive difference that would make the former act moral and the latter immoral. After all, newborn babies aren’t aware of death, aren’t nearly as sentient as an older child or adult, and have no rational faculties to make judgments (and if there’s severe mental disability, would never develop such faculties). It makes little sense to keep alive a suffering child who is doomed to die or suffer life in a vegetative or horribly painful state.

My outrage is partly at his conclusion that it is morally acceptable to kill infants, but mostly at his initial assumption that it is morally acceptable to abort a fetus with a genetic condition that I don’t like.

He accepts that it’s fine to kill infants and fetuses based on an arbitrary condition. He says that if a child in the womb looks like they will have a genetic condition, they ought to be murdered. This is an arbitrary decision, because what we considered to be life ending conditions 100 years ago are now treatable. This is an arbitrary decision, because sometimes genetic tests and fetal scans give inaccurate results. This is an arbitrary decision, because he assumes that a person born with a condition that he personally wouldn’t like to live with would also want to die.

His major fault is that he is a professor of biology. but is talking about moral philosophy in which he would have only very basic training. “Doing philosophy” can be as complicated as practicing law and it’s stupid of him to pretend to be an expert philosopher especially when his brilliant solution is it’s okay to murder kids.

We get the real reason he’s fine with murdering children here, as reported in The College Fix:

Comparing newborns to dogs and cats, Coyne claims that “some day the practice [of killing disabled newborns] will be widespread, and it will be for the better.”

When religion vanishes, as it will,” Coyne argues, “so will much of the opposition to both adult and newborn euthanasia.”

Coyne cites favorably the position of Princeton philosopher Peter Singer, who has also argued in favor of killing disabled newborns. “This is apparently already allowed in the Netherlands,” Coyne points out.

Godlessness! I could’ve guessed. He’s bending over backwards to make the awful position look like the better one and he’s implying that anyone who is against murdering infants is probably some stupid religious person, not at all a brilliant atheist like himself.

I say it again and again. It’s not Social Justice Warriors that are the problem, it’s atheists who want to destroy the west.
