Enough is Enough: Time for President Trump to Pardon Kristian Saucier, Or Prosecute Hillary Clinton

Kathleen and Sadie Saucier, the mother and wife, respectively, of imprisoned former United States Navy Machinist Mate Petty Officer 1st Class Kristian Saucier, have spent months bombarding social media groups and making appearances on TV and radio to attempt to bring awareness to the monumental injustice that was suffered by Kristian. Kristian is currently serving a one year sentence in Federal Prison for mishandling of classified information.

Kristian’s beautiful daughter Kassandra, born in September 2015, is getting bigger and smarter every day. As a parent myself with another baby on the way soon, I can tell you that those early life moments, filled with so many firsts are priceless and irreplaceable. His absence has also caused a significant financial strain on the young family as their chief provider has been taken away from them needlessly.

Sadie Saucier told me she is struggling as the family vehicle is in need of repairs that Kristian could have easily taken care of and they cannot afford a mechanic as their savings have dwindled down to just a few thousand dollars with mounting bills. In the middle of her daily stresses of worrying about her husband as he serves his sentence, she worries about the very real possibility that she and ‘Kassie’ may potentially be homeless very soon. The beautiful toddler cannot process the situation fully and Sadie tells me that she yells for her daddy whenever they leave the house, hoping they will encounter him in their travels.

The Saucier case was brought to trial needlessly by an Obama appointed United States Prosecutor, Deirdre M. Daly. Similar cases of ‘selfies’ or memento pictures taken in low level classified areas would normally be handled with what’s called non-judicial punishment carried out by the Commanding Officers on the base. Normal punishment would be along the lines of a reduction in rank and/or a fine of about the equivalent of a half months pay.  Kristian had taken 6 photographs in the early days of his service so he could someday show his future children what he did in service to his country.

With the Hillary Clinton private server scandal in the news, Kristian found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. United States Prosecutor Deirdre M. Daly, who is still serving in that capacity was among the US attorneys whose resignation was requested by United States Attorney General Jeff Sessions earlier this year. She resigned in early March but was inexplicably and quietly reinstated to her position days later.

President Trump and Vice President Pence both referred to the Saucier when they we’re bringing the case against Hillary Clinton to the people on the campaign trail. The Clinton double standard was obvious as she seemed to be protected against prosecution by the Obama Justice Department.

Whatever was discussed at the “Tarmac Summit” between former President of the United States Bill Clinton and then Attorney General Loretta Lynch has never been accurately disseminated but we can only assume that a deal was struck for her to avoid prosecution in a case where the evidence clearly shows a far more egregious example of mishandling of classified material.

The Trump Administration, as far as we know, struck no such deal with Clinton. With the sentence commutation of Chelsea Manning and several other examples of pardons for far worse crimes the time is now for President Trump to either pardon and restore the service of Kristian Saucier so he can serve his beloved US Navy and provide for his family or at least commute the sentence so he can get back to the difficult job of rebuilding his life. If he isn’t willing to do that and he isn’t willing to prosecute Clinton, the question becomes, “Were the Saucier’s used as a campaign prop?”
