BREAKING: Trump Sending Feds into Chicago

Next time you hear someone insult Trump for his unfiltered Twitter feed, it’s important to remember that amid the insults about face lifts and people who drink Diet Coke, there is some surprisingly real policy.

Just this morning, President Trump tweeted the following:

According to Breitbart, there were almost 4,400 shootings and almost 800 homicides in Chicago in 2016, with more than 300 shooting victims in the first month of 2017.

Lori Lightfoot, a former federal prosecutor and now the president of the Chicago Police Board spoke about the out of control shootings with an interview in NPR earlier this year:

We need to have more federal gun prosecutions in Chicago. Our federal partners from the U.S. attorney’s office, the ATF, the FBI need to be much more invested in this overall strategy. Chicago Police Department cannot tackle this issue by itself. This is not a problem that we’re going to arrest our way out of. We’re dealing with a huge re-entry problem – literally thousands of people coming back from the Illinois Department of Corrections to the same communities that they left, and those communities just don’t have the resources right now to absorb that huge influx of re-entry. So we’ve got to tackle that problem. It’s not sexy. It’s not popular, but if we’re going to really get at the root causes of a lot of this gun violence, we’ve got to deal with these issues as well.

And now, Trump is vowing to send in the Feds. This isn’t the first time he’s threatened drastic action, tweeting this just days after his inauguration:

We can already predict what the Trump-hating crowd will say. Tweets aren’t policy! States’ rights, Trump can’t just send in help! Guns exists because the Second Amendment is evil!

Just bring up the fact that every mayor of Chicago since 1931 has been a Democrat and that it’s clear that Democratic policies are the ones that are killing citizens, and for the sake of thousands of lives and their families, we are well past the time to try something better.
