In Charlottesville, Virginia, the schools and sporting events were shut down today as white nationalists and Black Lives Matter thugs fought each other in the streets. David Duke was in attendance. Marxist Gov. Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency and said most of the protesters were from out of state. They keep calling them white supremacists, but I understood them to be people protesting to keep Confederate monuments and flags… although it sure looks like white nationalists in the mix here. It was called the ‘Unite The Right’ rally.

Somebody deliberately drove a car into a bunch of pedestrians and hurt people. There aren’t a lot of details yet, but it’s not good. At least six people were hurt. It was said to be absolutely intentional. A gray Dodge Challenger struck a crowd of at least dozens on Saturday afternoon. The vehicle accelerated from at least a hundred feet of away, driving directly into the crowd, hurling people into the air. Blood could be seen on other car windows in photographs and video taken after the incident. The Challenger struck a vehicle, then reversed back up the street it drove down, followed by protesters. The driver’s whereabouts are unknown.

‘Unite the Right’ protesters showed up wearing militia uniforms, carrying shields and open carrying rifles. Not a good or smart move at all. The assembly was unlawful, so the police moved in to arrest people. That’s hardly surprising. Everyone was ordered to leave the area. Fighting started last night and carried on into this morning. Men in combat gear — some wearing bicycle and motorcycle helmets and carrying clubs and sticks and makeshift shields — fought each other in the downtown streets, with little apparent police interference. Both sides sprayed each other with chemical irritants and plastic bottles were hurled through the air.

From the Washington Post:

BREAKING NEWS, 2:33 p.m. At least six pedestrians were struck in a crash involving multiple vehicles in Charlottesville, according to the city government’s Twitter account. Matthew Korbon of Charlottesville said he was standing 10 feet from where the crash happened. He saw a car at high speed rear-end another car, then back up and plow through pedestrians. Charlottesville police said at least three vehicles were involved in the incident.

CHARLOTTESVILLE — After a morning of violent clashes between white nationalists and counterprotesters, police ordered hundreds of people out of a downtown park, putting an end to a noon rally before it even began.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency shortly before 11 a.m., blaming the violence on “mostly out-of-state protesters.”

“I am disgusted by the hatred, bigotry and violence these protesters have brought to our state over the past 24 hours,” McAuliffe (D) said.

Other elected leaders in Virginia and elsewhere also urged peace, blasting the white supremacist views on display in Charlottesville as ugly. U.S. House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) called their display “repugnant.”

Friday night, fights between the opposing sides began ‘after a judge cleared the way for the protest to continue as planned’. Because the fights have not subsided, Gov. Terry McAuliffe has placed the National Guard on standby, in case they are needed to be deployed and encouraged locals to stay away from the scene.

The man behind the ‘pro-white’ rally is Jason Kessler, who is being described as a right-wing blogger. The event was organized to protest ‘Charlottesville’s decision to remove a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee from a city park’. Thousands of people were expected to attend. This afternoon, President Trump tweeted: “We ALL must be united & condemn all that hate stands for. There is no place for this kind of violence in America. Lets come together as one!” First Lady Melania Trump also tweeted: “Our country encourages freedom of speech, but let’s communicate w/o hate in our hearts. No good comes from violence.”

At Emancipation Park, hundreds of neo-Nazis, Ku Klux Klan members and other white nationalists had gathered to protest the planned removal of a Confederate statue. They were met by equal numbers of counterprotesters, including clergy, Black Lives Matter activists and Princeton professor and noted communist, Cornel West.

Is this what it has devolved into? A mini-Civil War? This is disgraceful behavior from both sides and needs to stop immediately.
