JUST IN: Active School Shooting in San Bernardino

Tragedy unfolded earlier today at a San Bernardino North Park Elementary school. The shooting happened around 10 am this morning. Two adults are dead and two students have been rushed to a local hospital. They are calling this a murder-suicide. “Two adults are deceased in a classroom, believed to be a murder-suicide,” San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan posted on Twitter. “We believe the suspect is down and there’s no further threat.”

The condition of the students is unknown at this time. One of the victims is believed to be a teacher. Responders are on the scene now. The school is on lockdown along with two others: Hillside Elementary School and Cajon High School. Officers believe the situation is now contained. What a sad turn of events there.

From KTLA5:

Two adults were found dead in a classroom and two students are hospitalized after a shooter walked on to the North Park Elementary School campus in San Bernardino on Monday and opened fire in what the police chief characterized as a suspected murder-suicide.

Authorities responded to the elementary school, located 5378 N. H St., to a report of an active shooter just before 10:30 a.m., according to San Bernardino City Unified School District spokeswoman Maria Garcia.

The preliminary information was that a total of four victims were being treated, according to a tweet from San Bernardino Police Department Chief Jarrod Burguan.

The gunman was among those who were possibly down, according to the chief. One of the victims was a teacher, San Bernardino City Unified School District spokeswoman Maria Garcia said.

Two students were transported to a local hospital after the shooting, which took place in a classroom, he said.

Chief Jarrod Burguan advised the public to stay out of the area and said students are being taken to Cajon High School for safety. The San Bernardino Police Department is the lead agency responding to and investigating the shooting. The ATF’s Los Angeles division has also lent assets to San Bernardino police and the FBI has offered its assistance, the sources added.

This city was the site of the December 2015 terror attack that killed 14 people and wounded 22 others at a meeting of San Bernardino County employees. Husband-and-wife shooters Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik were killed in a gun battle with authorities later that day. The city has struggled with bankruptcy and is known for its extremely high crime rate, especially murders.

Say a prayer for the students that were injured. What a horrific way to start the week and what a sad ending for that teacher.
