JUST IN: Republican GUILTY of Child Sex Trafficking

I don’t know what is wrong with lawmakers and celebrities these days, but apparently if you give someone a bit of status, they turn into sexual deviants. Now we’re learning that an ex-lawmaker in Oklahoma has been found guilty of child sex trafficking.

In March, two-term Republican state Sen. Ralph Shortey was forced to resign from his position after being discovered in a motel room with a 17 year-old boy. He was accused of hiring the boy for sex and the married father of four was arrested.

He has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of child sex trafficking in exchange for dropping three different charges of child pornography that he had against him.

I don’t know how this is any better, but okay.

A four-count indictment was returned in September, accusing the former lawmaker of possessing child pornography in 2016 and 2017, using his smartphone to send videos involving children in 2013. The sex trafficking charge came in around March 8 and 9 of 2017 when police claim that Shortey paid the 17 year-old kid to have sex with him in a motel room.

While the judge has yet to set a sentencing date, Shortey is facing between 10 years and life in prison and a quarter of a million dollar fine.

I’m not saying that putting people in power makes them want to grab women and children and do with them what they please. I’m saying that they wanted to do this to begin with and giving them power allows them to have all of the resources necessary to cover it up.

This man is disgusting and if he spent the rest of his life in prison, I would feel nothing but joy. He is a predator and we don’t need someone like that running the streets at any point, now or in the future. Of course, we all know that abusing children is not exactly favored in prison, so the “rest of his life” might not be all that long. Being a former lawmaker, however, he’ll probably go to a special prison, so he can’t be assaulted, which is really too bad. I don’t advocate violence, but when children are the victims of grown people who know better, I find it possible to turn the other cheek.

How long do you think he should go away for? Do you think someone like this can be rehabilitated? Should he ever be released? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
