Kansas Teacher Refuses to Stop Messing Around With Underage Student Until a Judge Drops the Hammer

It’s bad enough that a teacher would sleep with one of their underage students, but to defy court orders and continue contacting him even after you’ve been caught is just shameless. Yet that’s what Kansas teacher Brooke Dinkel did, and tried to paint herself as the victim of a mental illness to get out of going to jail.

A Salina, Kansas middle school counselor hired one of her students to do odd jobs at her home, but then started a sexual relationship with him that lasted for months.

The 33-year-old Brooke Dinkel carried on the affair with the 13-year-old male student from October 2013 to March 2014. She bought the boy presents, and “tried to manipulate the teen into lying about the affair,” according to the Daily Mail.

Dinkel ignored warnings from friends and colleagues about the relationship, even defying court orders and contacting the victim while she was awaiting trial.

A psychologist testified that the now-former counselor suffered from a number of psychological issues, including a personality disorder. At sentencing, she tearfully pleaded with Judge Patrick Thompson:

“I’m begging you to be able to return to my family, my little girls. I need counseling; I need medication, but I am not a sexual predator.”

After telling her, “You are not the victim,” the judge sentenced her to 13 years and 9 months in jail.

It’s about time that a judge treated a female sex offender the same way a male would be. And it’s also about time that she got treated to a severe sentence — too often, women get away with these crimes with just a slap on the wrist, so good for Judge Thompson for giving her a heavy penalty and reminding her that she is not the victim here.
