No Headstomping Or Footstomping Allowed In Kentucky Or Anywhere Else
Last night at the Rand Paul vs. Jack Conway debate, a couple of extremely unfortunate incidents occurred. The worst of the two involved a Move-On member who wanted to present Rand Paul with some silly made-up award. This didn’t sit well with some crazies who were attending the event and not only was she wrestled down to the ground, a thug stomped her head (There’s also another woman who steps on her, but it’s hard to tell if she did that intentionally or accidentally as she tried to break it up):
First of all, there’s never an excuse for a man stomping on a woman’s head. Okay, maybe if she was swinging a meat cleaver at him, I could let it slide, but I don’t see a meat cleaver in the video. Do you see a meat cleaver? No.
All I see is a small woman being forced to the ground and having her head stomped. The guy who did the stomping? I hope they throw the book at him and he spends the next few years in jail thinking about what he did. There is absolutely no room in our democracy for that kind of despicable behavior. Let me also add that Laura Vale from MoveOn was in good enough shape to speak to the press after being attacked, but she has checked into the hospital. I really hope she’s okay.
All that being said, I applaud Rand Paul’s campaign for immediately issuing a statement condemning that horrific behavior:
The Paul campaign issued a statement, calling the altercation “incredibly unfortunate.”
“Violence of any kind has no place in our civil discourse and we urge supporters on all sides to be civil to one another as tensions rise heading toward this very important election,” the statement said.
Given that there were another incident at the same event that apparently featured a Conway supporter attacking a woman who’d just had foot surgery, I hope Jack Conway’s campaign will follow Rand Paul’s example.
In a separate incident, according to the Kentucky Post, “a Conway supporter stepped on the foot of a female Rand supporter, who recently had foot surgery. The woman was wearing a surgical boot, but after the injury, her incision was cut open. Police say she refused medical treatment and also filed an assault report.
Again, there is absolutely no room in our democracy for this kind of despicable behavior, no matter which side is engaging in it, Democrats or Republicans.
