After Trashing Police Over Freddie Gray Death, Baltimore Sets a Scary New City Record

After everything that happened in Baltimore over Freddie Gray’s death, you would think that it would have taught them something. Evidently not. Baltimore just set a new per-capita homicide record as thugs kill people for drugs, cash, payback – or no apparent reason at all. Maybe just for kicks or because they were the wrong skin color or the wrong political persuasion. Fun times in Baltimore… not.
They had a surge of killings in 2017. 343 people were murdered, which brings the annual homicide rate to their highest ever. That’s roughly 56 killings per 100,000 people. That doesn’t say a lot about life expectancy in a city that I lived in at one time when I was a kid. Baltimore is getting smaller over time, but they still have approximately 615,000 residents.
“Not only is it disheartening, it’s painful,” Mayor Catherine Pugh told The Associated Press during the final days of 2017, her first year in office. Well, Baltimore owns this. With cop and racial hatred rampant, as well as liberal policies… crime runs rampant. You might try actually punishing criminals instead of cops for a change. Just a thought.
Of course, the liberals in power there blame it on guns. Others blame the opioid epidemic. Then you have those saying it is unequal justice and a scarcity of decent opportunities. Those are the social justice crowd saying that. You know what it is? Gangs, drugs, immorality, corruption and social justice. Get rid of that and work on having moms at home and two parents to bring up their children and you might turn this around. Bringing faith back into the mix would help as well. But they won’t do any of that, because they call it hateful. So, the killing will go on and on and on. Running out of sympathy here.
Baltimore has rich neighborhoods and tourist attractions. Then they have the ghettos. It is a city starkly split between the haves and have-nots. But that is because of an entitlement mentality, not the evil rich. You are responsible for your lot in life and you can change it. Anyone can become a success or a failure depending on their mindset. And a lot of people in Baltimore evidently are their own wardens.
What I can’t tolerate is the hatred of the police there. They are accused of killing black kids who are criminals. You are evidently supposed to get a pass if you are black in Baltimore. I don’t care what color your skin is, if you commit a crime, you better be willing to face the consequences of your actions. After Freddie Gray, many officers are now afraid to actually do their jobs. They don’t want to wind up prosecuted for doing police work. When Freddie Gray died, it spurred the city’s worst riots in decades. And who’s fault is that? The mayor and the DA come to mind… with a big dose of Black Lives Matter. Killings have surged since then.
“The vast majority of our kids and residents of this city aren’t into criminal activity like this. It’s that same revolving group of bad guys that are wreaking havoc for people’s families,” said T.J. Smith, the chief police spokesman whose own younger brother was the city’s 173rd homicide victim in 2017. Then arrest them or shoot them. Your choice. There is too much sympathy for those who won’t help themselves here. In the end, the answer is pretty obvious… tough police enforcement a la Rudy Giuliani. You can’t make someone be good or help themselves, but you can protect the innocent as best you can. Baltimore has become a killing field. Add that to Obama’s legacy.
