17 year-old boy dies in front of his friends while playing one-man game of Russian Roulette

If this wasn’t a Darwin Award, I don’t know what is. This is suicidally stupid – literally. Anyone who plays Russian Roulette has a death wish and this boy’s was granted after four tries. However, I have some questions here. They say it was a shotgun. I highly doubt that. Shotguns that have spinnable cylinders are rare. It is much more likely it was a revolver. The police say they didn’t recover the weapon. The boy basically committed suicide, that gun should have been right next to him. Did his friends take it? Or was there something else going on here? This case smells to high heaven. Wonder if his friends’ stories will hold up under inspection? I can’t believe the police have to tell anyone how dangerous Russian Roulette is. No duh, it will kill you. Geez.

Cruisito Leiba, 17 was hanging with friends in north-east Pueblo in Colorado when he shot himself while playing with a gun.

From the Daily Mail:

A teenager has died in Colorado after playing a game of Russian roulette while hanging out with his friends.

Cruisito Leiba, 17, suffered a single gunshot wound to the head, said the Pueblo County Coroner’s office.

His friends said the teen had been playing with a shotgun when he fired it. He died in hospital.

Several other teens were at the home when the incident happened but Leiba was the only one playing Russian roulette.

‘He shot it once, nothing happened,’ his friend Selena Aguila told CBS Denver. ‘He shot it twice, nothing happened. Then, he shot it the third time and we heard a big bang.’

When officers arrived Leiba was still breathing. He was taken to hospital, where he passed away.

Capt. Kenny Rider told KRDO: ‘This game is absolutely dangerous. It will kill you. And we do not want any kids playing this game, or adults.’

He added: ‘Everybody verified or confirmed that this juvenile who died had been playing that game, had spun the cylinder and pulled the trigger at least four times before it actually fired.’

Police haven’t recovered the gun used in the shooting.

The other teenagers at the house told police kept spinning the cylinder, pointing the gun at his head and pulling the trigger, over and over.

‘We were upstairs and heard a loud bang… ran outside, I was like, “Someone call 911,”’ said Leiba’s friend Evalina Byrd.

At a vigil for Leiba, his grieving father said about gunplay: ‘You play it once, you’re done.’

Did anyone say why he was doing this? Was he depressed or was it a macho thing? And why were all the teenagers upstairs when it happened? Something is off here, trust me. The boy’s father is right, you play it once and you’re done. It’s a tragic loss for that family. If I were the boy’s father, I’d want additional answers here. And if they were all upstairs, just how do they know how many times the boy pulled the trigger? I’m not saying he didn’t commit suicide playing the game, but the story doesn’t make sense. What a waste and all because of a game. Guns are to be respected and not played with – doing so, could be the last thing you do.
