A BLACK PASTOR AGGRESSIVELY SLAMS GAYS: ‘You’re Perverted, You’re Lost And You Need Deliverance’ [Video]

Well, that is one pastor that certainly did not hold back. I can understand a Christian church preaching against the sin of homosexuality, but this is a little bit over the top. However, I can certainly appreciate the sentiment as did the congregation. They gave the preacher a standing ovation, shouting and stomping their feet enthusiastically. The Bishop however, was not impressed and apologized. He says the church stands against homosexuality, but the message should be delivered with civility and compassion. There’s an argument to be made though that one should be either hot or cold on the issue. In the end, the judgement call is up to God, but Pastor Carter was determined to speak his piece and boy did he.

From EEW Magazine:

The Presiding Bishop of the Church of God In Christ has openly rebuked the preacher who spoke against gays and apologized to a young man claiming deliverance from homosexuality.

On Sunday, Nov. 16, from the pulpit of his California church, the 74-year-old leader held nothing back.

“On Saturday evening, November the 8th, one of our more than 15 speakers used terms and spoke in a way that was offensive and inappropriate,” said the Senior Pastor of West Angeles COGIC in Los Angeles, reading a prepared statement.

Blake was referring to Superintendent Earl Carter, who used the word “sissy” to describe gay men and said he hoped they would bleed from their butts, among other shocking statements.

The Bishop continued, “Though he alone is responsible for the nature and tone of his remarks, it was on my watch that this took place. Even though I was not present at the service on that night, as Presiding Bishop, I apologize for what seemed to be a harsh, uncompassionate, disrespectful spirit on the part of that speaker.”

In Carter’s pointed, politically incorrect sermon, he said, “I got something for all these homosexuals just walking around here with your pocketbooks, with your tight pants and your bowtie, and you’re walking like a girl, you need deliverance!”

He continued, “I’ma tell you why you need deliverance and I’ma tell you what’s wrong with you walking ‘round here, looking like a sissy. If they don’t want nobody to say nothing about you, I’m gone say something about you. You’re perverted and you’re lost!”

Carter also blasted the pastors he said allowed the perversion to go unchecked. “I blame some of these preachers. You got the sissies up here doing praise and worship,” he remarked.

The crowd went wild, standing, clapping, shouting and expressing approval of his observations.

But Bishop Blake was neither impressed nor amused.

The COGIC leader said Carter was wrong and failed to be compassionate and sensitive in his delivery. “We believe that we should reflect the love and compassion of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in all that we do.”

Despite his disagreement with Carter’s approach, Blake made it clear that COGIC does not “in any way compromise our biblical position against same-sex unions or in favor of biblical teaching on matters of sexual conduct.”

Notwithstanding, said Blake, the church has an expectation that “clergy and laity will be civil and considerate as they speak to men and women regarding issues related to our Christian faith.”

Lack of civility online also led him to apologize to COGIC attendee Andrew Caldwell who, after feeling convicted by Carter’s sermon, went to the altar to be “delivered more” from feminine tendencies.

His exuberant testimony following prayer from Bishop Brandon Porter went viral and sparked “I’m Not Gay No More” parodies, song mixes and Internet memes.

“I also apologize to Andrew Caldwell, a young seeker for the Lord, who came forth and made statements on that night regarding his change of heart and his purpose in life,” said Blake. “His testimony literally went viral and it has brought upon him criticism and sardonicism.”

Though Caldwell has become a caricature and joke in many circles, Blake said, “We extend our love, our prayers and our support to that young man as he seeks to know God and to serve God. “

Before moving on, Blake shared a word of advice concerning the church’s delivery of biblical truths. He said, we should do that in “humility,” otherwise, “we contradict the witness that we would strive to have to the world.”

I believe there is a time for delivering the Word of God compassionately and with love. There is also a time for fire and brimstone. There is a time to be meek as a lamb and let gentleness be your guide. But there is also a time to roar like a lion and to gird your loins in armor for the battle ahead. Pastor Carter was cheered for his words and in a Christian church, perhaps it is time some of those words came out, because the Bible is very clear where it stands on the issue. Part of me cringed at the video, but part of me cheered as well for a pastor daring to say what was in his heart and what he believes is biblically correct. One thing is for sure, even though this occurred in November of last year and the video is just now being publicized, you can use an egg timer to time the cry of outrage from those that aren’t Christians and are from the Left.
