Liberal Democrat Introduces Bill Requiring All Gun Owners To Buy Liability Insurance

Liberal Progressives are the honey badgers of politics… they just never, ever give up on gun control. Now, they want to usher in gun insurance into the mix – the insurance industry is a giant betting scam that Americans are forced to participate in. It’s like a protection racket – only legal. So, Maloney, a New York Democrat (shocker there), wants to mandate that all individuals who buy a gun purchase liability insurance or face a $10,000 fine. She compares it to auto insurance. Newsflash, you Marxist dimwit… driving is a privilege… our Second Amendment rights are guaranteed by the Constitution. Liberals don’t get to dictate who gets what Constitutional rights. Next, she’ll want to limit free speech and religious rights. Oh wait, already trying to do that.

From BuzzPo:

A House democrat has introduced a bill on Friday that would require liability insurance for all gun owners.

Rep. Carolyn Maloney (New York) has just unveiled The Firearm Risk Protection Act. According to The Hill, the bill “would require gun buyers to have liability insurance coverage before being allowed to purchase a weapon, and would impose a fine of $10,000 if an owner is found not to have it. Service members and law enforcement officers, however, would be exempt from the requirement.”

“We require insurance to own a car, but no such requirement exists for guns. The results are clear: car fatalities have declined by 25 percent in the last decade, but gun fatalities continue to rise.”

First of all, owning a gun is a right while operating a motor vehicle is a privilege. If we require liability insurance to exercise our 2nd amendment right, will we be needing insurance for our freedom of speech as well? How about to exercise our freedom of religion when we go to church on Sunday? Where do we draw the line?

Secondly, Maloney failed to make a distinction between fatal shootings that occur by law-abiding gun owners, and violent criminals using stolen weapons. Obviously, if a criminal is committing a violent crime with a gun that’s been reported stolen, it’s highly improbable he’d ever comply with a law requiring him to have liability insurance.

Finally, we don’t require car insurance to OWN a car as Maloney falsely stated. It’s only required to operate one.

Maloney continued:

“An insurance requirement would allow the free market to encourage cautious behavior and help save lives. Adequate liability coverage would also ensure that the victims of gun violence are fairly compensated when crimes or accidents occur.”

To the contrary, an insurance requirement would do nothing to encourage cautious behavior and/or save lives. If you put an untrained driver behind the wheel of a car, does car insurance magically make him/her safe and proficient?

Furthermore, Maloney failed to present any factual evidence that would support her ignorant statement.

However, statistics prove that proper firearms safety training and shooting proficiency courses DO elevate a gun owners skills and safety.

The bill introduced by Maloney has nothing to do with curbing “gun violence.” All it does is provide a “smoke and mirrors” effect while discouraging gun ownership by law-abiding citizens.

Thankfully, with both a republican controlled House and Senate, Maloney’s bill will hopefully be dead on arrival. It is however a shame that she insists on wasting Congress’s time, while squandering our precious tax dollars.

Maloney is slithering along the trail left by Bloomberg. She’s not alone either on trying to shove more gun control on us. The Justice Department plans to move forward this year with more than a dozen new gun-related regulations, according to a list of rules the agency has proposed to enact before the end of the Obama Administration. Many of them say they target domestic abuse and the mentally unstable. But they will be used to limit gun ownership by regular Americans, count on it. There are also upcoming ATF rules that would require gun dealers to report gun thefts, provide gun storage and safety devices, and place restrictions on high-powered pistols, among other things. Obama is going for it in his last two years – not content to destroy pieces of the Constitution, he’s going whole hog and the coup de grace will be gun control.
