Miss Colombia Crowned Miss Universe – But Then Steve Harvey Comes on Stage…

Somehow, awkward doesn’t quite cover this one. Steve Harvey announced the winner of the Miss Universer 2015 pageant and… got them mixed up. He proclaimed that Miss Colombia was the winner, who then got the crown, the flowers and the sash. She was crying with joy. Harvey had called Miss Philippines as the runner up. It was on the card right, but he read it wrong. Steve then took the stage and announced he had made a grave error… that Miss Philippines was the winner and Miss Colombia was the runner up. The crowd sounded angry and shocked to me. He told the audience it was his fault and showed how it was right on the card. I’m sure he feels awful about it.

Miss Universe

From IJReview:

UPDATE: Steve Harvey has apologized on Twitter for his mistake.

Miss Universe1

Both of these women are exquisitely beautiful. Miss Philippines actually looked beyond shocked that she had won. I will give it to Miss Colombia… she was dignified and handled the situation with grace and decorum. She was very gracious as she handed over her crown and kept her smile in place. This is a painful video to watch. I felt just as bad for Steve Harvey as I did for the contestants. He made a mistake. It happens to us all. His was just on international television at a world class event when his happened. I don’t think this was planned at all. You can’t plan how overwhelmingly awful Harvey felt at that moment. Congratulations to Miss Philippines, but Miss Colombia is also a winner in my book. Her actions were those of a true winner and she was almost regal in her behavior.
