NASCAR’s Dale Earnhardt Issues Heartbreaking Statement – Please Pray

The NASCAR community is grieving over Elijah Aschbrenner who passed away on Tuesday after a battle with a rare form of cancer. He was inspirational and everyone loved the boy. Many prayed for him, but he was finally called home. He had Epitheliod Sarcoma cancer for more than a year and he never stopped fighting to live. Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Joey Logano both cheered Elijah on while battling his rare form of neck cancer. Elijah touched many lives and his love of life was uplifting. “At 10:52 p.m., my baby went to be with Jesus,” Elijah’s mother, Becky Hughes, wrote on a Facebook page dedicated to his cancer fight. “Our lives will never be the same; but because of him our lives were forever changed.” The cancer was discovered last year. The 10-year-old had a recurrence this past Easter in his lung and started a new trial in Atlanta in August. The fight had been up and down for Elijah, but in the end, the cancer won.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Joey Logano are among those who took to Twitter to remember the 10-year-old cancer patient who passed away on Tuesday night. Elijah — first diagnosed with a rare neck cancer in May 2014 — participated in this year’s “Catwalk For A Cause” event created by Martin Truex Jr. and girlfriend Sherry Pollex.

We send our deepest condolences to Elijah’s friends and family.

I think we should all pray for Elijah’s family. He’s no longer in pain… he’s in a place now where that no longer matters. But his family must go on here and they need all the love and prayers we can give them. During his fight, Elijah won the hearts of many in the community including NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Panthers’ quarterback Cam Newton. In May, Elijah joined Earnhardt and NASCAR driver Danica Patrick on the runway as part of the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation’s “Catwalk for a Cause” pediatric cancer fundraiser. Last month, his neighbors and friends rallied to give Elijah an early Halloween, his favorite holiday, for fear that he wouldn’t be there for it. When Carolina Panthers’ star quarterback Cam Newton heard about it, he reportedly called and talked to Elijah. He then surprised everyone by showing up at the party, hand delivering all of Elijah’s favorite foods. Today, thousands of people who have followed Elijah’s journey have sent condolences, including Earnhardt and NASCAR driver Joey Logano. Twitter reads like a tribute to the young man – I wish I could have met him.
