Woman Found DEAD In Hotel Room, With Incoherent Man And TWO Monkeys…

Suspicious much? Ya think? I would say finding a dead woman in a hotel room with two monkeys and an incoherent man was highly suspicious. But hey… that’s just me. The monkeys were at least in carrier crates and not cavorting over her corpse. There was no sign of trauma to the dead woman’s body, but there was a note there. I have no idea what it said. This whole thing is so weird, I can’t even wrap my head around it. The cause of death is undetermined pending an autopsy. That must have been one hell of a party.

From the Herald-Tribune:

NORTH PORT – The death of a woman found in a North Port hotel room on Friday afternoon is being investigated as suspicious, city spokesman Josh Taylor said.

Linda Marie Smith, 59, of Arcadia was found dead in a room at the Budget Inn. In addition to her body, two live monkeys were in the hotel room.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m. police announced they were investigating a suspicious death in a room at the hotel at 14000 Tamiami Trail.

About an hour later the city announced the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission had retrieved two capuchin monkeys from the room.

Taylor said the primates were found in carrier crates and were not loose in the room.

Taylor said a man was also found in the room. He was incoherent and received medical attention, and investigators intend to question him further. His identity was not released Friday evening.

The article seems far more focused on the two Capuchin monkeys found there than the dead woman. I find that very odd. The ‘incoherent’ guy was combative, but finally surrendered to officers. The woman was later identified as Linda Marie Smith, 59. The monkeys belong to the man found in the room. One of the managers at the motel told ABC Action News the unidentified man and the woman checked in Thursday for one night; they were supposed to check out at 11 a.m. on Friday. When they did not, the other manager knocked on the door and when no one answered, opened it. The woman’s body was found on the bed and she had been dead for several hours. This is a wacky mystery and has the potential to be a bad and tragic joke.
