OK, how can it be even remotely legal to give away tax money to people so they will voluntarily give up their own Constitutional right? But that is what a foolish congresscritter from Connecticut wants to do by giving tax breaks to people who turn in their guns. It’s only the latest haflwitted gun grab from a conressperson.
Anti-Constitutionalist Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) is the one proposing this idiotic bill.
Gun owners would receive tax breaks for voluntarily turning in high-powered assault rifles under new legislation proposed Monday.
The Support Assault Firearm Elimination and Education of our (SAFER) Streets Act expected to be reintroduced next week by Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) would provide gun owners with an incentive to turn in their firearms to local police departments.
“Assault weapons are not about hunting, or even self-defense,” DeLauro said. “There is no reason on earth, other than to kill as many people as possible in as short a time as possible, that anyone needs a gun designed for a battlefield.”
…The legislation would provide up to $2,000 in tax credits for gun owners who voluntarily hand over assault weapons to their local police departments.
(Notice that this same bill has failed repeatedly in Congress.)
Once again, say it with me loudly: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN ASSAULT WEAPON.
And let’s not forget that every municipality that has tried this cash for guns nonsense has found that the programs are a complete failure. People do not turn in guns that might be used in crime. People rarely turn in working guns, they often turn in old and antique guns, and they don’t turn in guns that are prone to being used in crime.
These programs are a waste of tax dollars and do absolutely nothing to stop crime.
But on top of that, how is this even a legal use of federal tax dollars?
