Despite Harshest Gun Laws in the Nation, Chicago Has 12,000 Shootings Since 2010

It is safer to be in some war zones than to live in and around Chicago (especially on the city’s south side). Now we see that despite the city’s harsh gun banning laws, over 12,000 shootings have occurred in the Windy City in the last 4-1/2 years.

Chicago’s DNAInfo.com tallied Chicago’s shootings and was amazed at the results.

Since New Year’s Day 2010, there have been more than 12,000 shootings in Chicago. More than 14,000 people were hit in those shootings, including more than 2,000 who died.

DNAinfo Chicago plotted all the city’s shootings and homicides on an interactive map below. Search by date, date range, neighborhood and more to see the hot spots, the clusters and the overall danger zones.

You are more likely to be murdered in Chicago than in Iraq! Of course, this is why Chicago has earned the nickname Chiraq.
