Gerry Connolly (D-Va) Asks IRS Official If She’s A Witch

Sarah Hall has been slammed by Republicans for months because she once headed the IRS division that targeted conservative political groups for extra scrutiny when they applied for tax-exempt status. She’s since gone on to head the IRS health care office (those last words should give people pause and scare the heck out of them). They were grilling her more on Wednesday. Why?

House Republican investigators Wednesday accused the woman in charge of the IRS‘ Obamacare compliance office of having leaked private taxpayer information to the White House, saying that calls into question the agency’s trustworthiness in administering the new health care reform law.

How’d it go when Connolly got involved and brought up The Crucible, a story about a woman accused of being a witch in Salem? (video at link)

‘You’re under oath,’ he said. ‘Have you been consorting with the devil?’

‘Not to my knowledge, sir,’ she answered.

‘Are reports that you can fly accurate?’

‘Uh, greatly exaggerated, sir,’ she responded with a practiced smirk.

‘Have you been involved, in any way, in trying to pervert our youth,’ Connolly pressed with faux outrage, ‘In Salem or anywhere else?

‘I certainly hope not sir.’

‘You’re sure?’

‘Yes, sir.’

Glad Democrats are taking possible violations of federal law seriously. The emails released to Congress where heavily redacted, because that private data cannot be shared. Yet, as Republicans pointed out, it was shared with the White House.
