The Senate has officially confirmed Christopher Wray for the FBI Director position and the vote was unanimous. That’s right, Senate Republicans and Democrats managed to come together on something under a Trump Presidency. Let’s hope this sets the tone for the next 4 years.
Both parties think that Wray is more than qualified for the position and were more than happy to confirm him.
This may very well be the only time you hear Chuck Grassley and Dianne Feinstein agree on something, so mark this day on your calendar.
So who is this guy? Let’s give you the rundown.
He was in government service until 2005 and had since worked with King & Spalding’s Washington law offices. Before this, he acted as the assistant attorney general for the criminal division at the Department of Justice during the George W. Bush administration. It’s important to note that he was among those who were prepared to resign over Bush’s unconstitutional domestic surveillance programs.
What do people on both sides of the aisle have to say about him?
“Beyond credentials, I believe Mr. Wray has the right view of the job,” said GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, who chairs the committee.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, the ranking Democrat on the committee, expressed confidence that Wray has the fortitude to maintain the FBI’s integrity.
“We need leaders with steel spines, not weak knees, and I am hopeful that Mr. Wray will be just such a leader,” she said.
This time in American history is going to test Wray’s ability to lead and will truly show us his character. It will be interesting to see how he addresses the “Russia thing,” which is going to haunt the Trump Presidency for some time to come.
I would like to know his opinion on the Hillary Clinton investigation as well.
